The conformations of poly(epsilon-caprolactam) and of poly(epsilon-cap
rolactam)-block-polybutadiene copolymers were investigated by Fourier
Transform infrared spectroscopy with photoacoustic detection (PA-FTi.r
.) and by micro-Raman confocal spectroscopy. The lowering of the plana
r conformation content with increasing concentration of butadiene unit
s was confirmed. In the surface layers formed by rapid saw-cutting and
in the islands probably formed by microtome cutting, the content of t
he planar conformation was reduced. The content of the planar conforma
tion increases on water treatment. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
