AIM: To study whether or not the freshly prepared benzylpenicillin cou
ld induce different non-IgE antibody response from aged benzylpenicill
in. METHODS: Antibody response was determined by enzyme-linked immunos
orbent assay (ELISA). Antigen molecules recognized by antibodies and a
ntigenic cross reactions were tested by hapten inhibition assay. RESUL
TS: Isotypes of specific non-IgE antibodies induced by freshly prepare
d benzylpenicillin were mainly IgM, and then IgG and IgA. Some parts o
f specific antibodies recognized benzylpenicillin molecule and major p
arts combined with degraded or transforming products. Isotypes of anti
bodies responsible for cross reaction were mainly IgG between benzylpe
nicillin and ampicillin and IgM between benzylpenicillin and piperacil
lin. CONCLUSION: Freshly prepared and aged benzylpenicillin induced di
fferent non-IgE antibody response.
