Pw. Carpenter et Pn. Green, THE AEROACOUSTICS AND AERODYNAMICS OF HIGH-SPEED COANDA DEVICES, PART1 - CONVENTIONAL ARRANGEMENT OF EXIT NOZZLE AND SURFACE, Journal of sound and vibration, 208(5), 1997, pp. 777-801
The literature on high-speed Coanda flows and its applications is revi
ewed. The lack of basic information for design engineers is noted. The
present paper is based on an investigation of the aeroacoustics and a
erodynamics of the high-speed Coanda flow that is formed when a supers
onic jet issues from a radial nozzle and adheres to a tulip-shaped bod
y of revolution. Schlieren and other flow visualization techniques tog
ether with theoretical methods are used to reveal the various features
of this complex flow field. The acoustic characteristics were obtaine
d from measurements with an array of microphones in an anechoic chambe
r. The emphasis is placed on those features of the aerodynamics and ae
roacoustics which may be of general interest. (C) 1997 Academic Press
