Abstract
The position of an atom inside a cavity can be estimated by measuring the phase shift of the homodyne current leaking out from the cavity. B y continuously monitoring the position of the atom inside the cavity, the phase of the standing wave may be adjusted so that the dipole forc e always keeps the atom from falling out of the cavity due to the grav itational force. We have called this technique atomic juggling.
