A revision of the genus Arthrodamaeus Grandjean, 1954 is given, togeth
er with a discussion about the true identity of the type species, A. r
eticulatus Berlese, 1910. Five new species from the western Mediterran
ean region are described: A. mediterraneus sp. nov., A. rosarius sp. n
ov., A. bicristatus sp. nov., A. octosetosus sp. nov. and A. cereus sp
. nov. The type species, A. reticulatus, is redescribed. An identifica
tion key for the seven known species is provided. Finally, some consid
erations about the distribution of the genus (basically Mediterranean)
and its adaptations to thermic and xeric conditions are given.
