Abstract
Possibilities to change the molecular arrangement of hydrogen bonded d imers of carboxylic acids by offering other acceptor groups are invest igated in different species of molecules, namely in amino acid conjuga tes, in sulfinyl- and phosphinylcarboxylic acids and in some p-n-alkox ybenzoic acids. As a result it was found that the carboxylic dimers ar e rather easily broken by lattice forces, by forming other intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds to stronger acceptor groups, and by incr easing the temperature.
