EXAMINATION OF THE PREPARATION AND REACTI ONS OF CYCLOPROPANE CARBOXYLIC-ACID DERIVATIVES

The key step in the phase transfer catalyzed cyclization reaction betw een olefines and CH-acids, in the presence of solid potassium carbonat e and iodine, is the iodosubstitution of the CH-acid. Based on this fa ct a new phase transfer catalytic method was developed to the preparat ion of iodomalonic esters. A versatile method was developed to the dea lkoxycarbonylation of the sterically crowded bicyclic cyclopropanecarb oxylic acid lactones obtained by the ptc-cyclization method via a non- hydrolytic ester cleavage followed by a Barton-type decarboxylation, t oo.
