There are two criteria, blood ethanol concentration and breath ethanol
concentration, to determine the physiological degree of drunkenness o
f people since the correct measurement of the breath ethanol concentra
tion by means of evidential breath ethanol analysers has become possib
le. The methods of measurement, the resulting measurands and the probl
ems involved are described from the viewpoint of legal metrology.
