The recovery of the turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate distorted
by the reflection of the oblique shock wave, and the interaction betw
een the reflected oblique shock system and the separation shock ahead
oi the forward-facing step through the distorted boundary layer were i
nvestigated both experimentally and numerically. As the increase in th
e shock strength, the interaction becomes severe, causing the boundary
layer separation, The shape factor of the turbulent boundary layer di
storted by the oblique shock reflection recovers exponentially in the
downstream direction. The interaction is roughly classified into three
typical cases; In the first case, the separation shock is far downstr
eam of the reflected oblique shock system, and they are almost indepen
dent each other. In the second case, the separation shuck is blurred t
o the compression wavelets due to the weakened boundary layer, and the
reflected shock system remains almost unchanged. In the third case, t
he separation shock occurs ahead of the reflected shock system, and me
rges into the front leg of the reflected shock system.
