Significant advances in the polyrotaxane field have been made in the p
ast year, in terms of understanding formation mechanisms and the devel
opment of new materials. The highlights include the recognition of hyd
rogen-bonding as a driving force for the formation of crown ether-base
d polyrotaxanes, preparation of mechanically-linked branched and cross
linked polymers, and the development of polyrotaxanes with new archite
ctures.
