N. Benamrouche et al., DETERMINATION OF IRON AND STRAY LOAD LOSSES IN INDUCTION-MOTORS USINGA THERMOMETRIC METHOD, Electric machines and power systems, 26(1), 1998, pp. 3-12
In an induction motor, losses in the magnetic materials account for 10
% to 20% of total losses. The iron loss effectively reduces both the o
utput capability and possibly the life span of the machine. To limit t
hese undesirable effects a prior requirement is to accurately assess t
he iron losses, and understand their nature and, ideally, their spatia
l location. An experimental method for determining the iron and stray
load losses is presented. The test motor is a 3 phase, 4 pole: 4 KW in
duction motor which was heavily instrumented with thermocouples to map
the loss distribution.
