Cs. Kee et al., ABSOLUTE PHOTONIC BAND-GAP IN A 2-DIMENSIONAL SQUARE LATTICE OF SQUARE DIELECTRIC RODS IN AIR, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 56(6), 1997, pp. 6291-6293
We show that an absolute photonic band gap exists in a two-dimensional
square lattice of square dielectric rods in air. The index of refract
ion of the square dielectric rods must be larger than 2.65 to have the
band gap. This structure is a good candidate for two-dimensional phot
onic crystals in the IR or the visible to near-IR wavelength range, an
d can be applied to high efficiency optoelectronic devices.
