Abstract
Melaspilea circumserpens Nyl., hitherto known only from the type speci men, collected in Tasmania in 1803 by Robert Brown, has been rediscove red. The species has proved to belong to the genus Glonium (Hysteriace ae), previously not known to contain species associated with algae. Th e new combination Glonium circumserpens (Nyl.) Kantvilas & Coppins is proposed. The anatomy, morphology and ecology of the species are descr ibed. Problems regarding the provenance of several lichen specimens co llected by Robert Brown are discussed. (C) 1997 The British Lichen Soc iety.
