The effect of nonuniform magnetic field on the linear and nonlinear wa
ve propagation phenomena in two-phase pipe how of magnetic fluid is in
vestigated theoretically to realize the effective energy conversion sy
stem using boiling two-phase how of magnetic fluid. Firstly, the gover
ning equations of two-phase flow based on the unsteady thermal nonequi
librium two-fluid model are presented and the linear void wave propaga
tion phenomena in boiling two-phase flow are numerically analyzed by u
sing the finite volume method. Next, the nonlinear pressure wave propa
gation in gas-liquid two-phase flow is numerically analyzed by using t
he finite different method. According to these theoretical studies on
the wave propagation phenomena in two-phase how of magnetic fluid, it
seems to be a reasonable proposal that the precise control of the wave
propagation in two-phase flow is possible by effective use of the mag
netic force. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
