Abstract
Self-guided propagation of femtosecond laser pulses is studied for a c onverging-beam configuration. Channeling of the pulse energy through v arious gases is observed over distances well beyond the lens focal poi nt, a fact that cannot be explained by the moving-focus model. The res ults are in good agreement with three-dimensional numerical simulation s. (C) 1998 Optical Society of America.
