Abstract
The oral behaviour of captive giraffes was studied, During the day the percentage time feeding decreased significantly, while more ruminatio n and tongue playing took place. The lime budget of giraffes in 4 Dutc h toes was measured. A large part of the time budget consisted of devi ant behaviour, i.e. tongue playing (25%). Tongue playing was reduced a fter administration of extra browse.
