Abstract
Resting metabolic rate (RMR) was measured monthly by indirect respirat ion calorimetry over 2 years on 6 male, 6 non-breeding female, 9 pregn ant and 7 lactating adult roe deer, maintained in outdoor enclosures, in midwestern France and fed ad libitum. Mean monthly RMR varied in re lation to body mass (BM). The RMR/kg BM ranged between 180 and 260 kJ per day except for the lactating females, and revealed no indication o f seasonal rhythm. The slopes of allometric relationships were similar in the different categories, but in lactating females the elevation w as higher.
