Recently, a new book on knowledge organization has been published by G
reenwood Press. The title is ''Information seeking and subject represe
ntation: An activity-theoretical approach to information science''. Th
is book presents a new general theory for information science and know
ledge organization, based on a theory of information seeking. The auth
or is Dr. Birger Hjorland, Royal School of Library and Information Sci
ence. In 1994, he presented his work on theory for KO at the 3(rd) Int
ernational ISKO conference in Copenhagen (Hjorland, 1994). The book ai
ms to provide both a new understanding for the foundations of informat
ion science and knowledge organization, and to provide new directions
