A high-resolution detector array has been developed for the measuremen
t of momenta of charged and uncharged particles via the time-of-flight
method. This spectrometer represents one detector arm of a system use
d to study the photoabsorption mechanisms of (gamma, NN) and (gamma, p
i N) reactions. It is comprised of 112 plastic scintillators (NE110) o
f dimensions 5 x 20 x 300 cm(3) with a photomultiplier attached to eac
h end. A mean time resolution of less than or similar to 400 ps (FWHM)
and a position resolution of less than or similar to 6 cm have been a
chieved. The modularity and flexibility of the array encouraged its us
e in other electron-and photon-induced reaction measurements.
