By. Chen et al., ADP-GLUCOSE PYROPHOSPHORYLASE IS LOCALIZED TO BOTH THE CYTOPLASM AND PLASTIDS IN DEVELOPING PERICARP OF TOMATO FRUIT, Plant physiology, 116(1), 1998, pp. 101-106
The intracellular location of ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGP) in d
eveloping pericarp of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) has been i
nvestigated by immunolocalization. With the use of a highly specific a
nti-tomato fruit ACP antibody, the enzyme was localized in cytoplasm a
s well as plastids at both the light and electron microscope levels. T
he immunogold particles in plastids were localized in the stroma and a
t the surface of the starch granule, whereas those in the cytoplasm oc
curred in cluster-like patterns. Contrary to the fruit, the labeling i
n tomato leaf cells occurred exclusively in the chloroplasts. These da
ta demonstrate that ACP is localized to both the cytoplasm and plastid
s in developing pericarp cells of tomato.
