M. Quinten et al., CALCULATION OF THE OPTICAL-PROPERTIES OF PHTHALOCYANINE THIN-FILMS WITH INCORPORATED NOBLE-METAL CLUSTERS, Journal of optics, 28(6), 1997, pp. 245-251
The extinction spectra of nanometre-sized metal particles (copper, sil
ver and gold) embedded in a phthalocyanine matrix are calculated in te
rms of generalized Mie theory. The particles are modelled as metal sph
eres with a phthalocyanine shell. In particular, the effect of aggrega
tion on the optical properties is investigated theoretically, consider
ing planar aggregates of densely packed heterogeneous particles. The c
omparison with experimental data confirms the importance of considerin
g aggregation effects in the calculation for metal volume filling fact
ors of around 20%.
