J. Vonschwarzenberg et al., IDENTIFICATION OF SPHERICAL STATES AT LOW-ENERGY IN THE DEFORMED NUCLEUS PT-185, Physical review. C. Nuclear physics, 57(1), 1998, pp. 15-18
The nucleus Pt-185, which has a strongly deformed ground state and num
erous low-lying rotational bands, is shown to possess low-lying excite
d states which are nonrotational. This is demonstrated through the abs
ence of rotational excitations associated with two low-spin (J=3/2;5/2
) states at excitations between 500 and 600 keV. The implications of t
hese observations for shape changes and shape coexistence in this regi
on are discussed.
