Abstract
An alternative description of tilted rotation, observed in deformed nu clei, is presented using the projected shell model approach. It is sho wn that a strong configuration mixing among the projected states is re sponsible for the appearance of the tilted bands near to, but slightly above, the yrast line in even-even tungsten isotopes. Various tilted bands in Os-184 are also predicted.
