Disoriented chiral condensates or long wavelength pionic oscillations
and their interaction with the thermal environment can be a significan
t source of dileptons. We calculate the yield of such dilepton product
ion within the linear a model. both in a quantum mean-field treatment
and in a semiclassical approximation. We then illustrate the basic fea
tures of the dilepton spectrum in a schematic model. We find that dile
pton yield with invariant mass near and below 2m(pi) due to the soft p
ion modes can be up to two orders of magnitude larger than the corresp
onding equilibrium yield.
