Abstract
A chimeric protein (72,366 Dal of 511 diphtheria toxin residues and a mature form of streptavidin was constructed. Its production in E. coli BL21(DE3)pLysS cells (mainly in inclusion bodies) was about 32% of to tal cell protein. The fusion protein was found to possess the diphther ia toxin enzyme activity and to retain the biotin-binding property of streptavidin.
