Jd. Kim et Es. Lee, A STUDY ON THE MIRROR-LIKE GRINDING OF MGO SINGLE-CRYSTAL WITH VARIOUS DIAMOND WHEELS, Journal of materials processing technology, 72(1), 1997, pp. 1-10
In recent years, MgO single crystals of brittle materials have been us
ed widely in materials of high-temperature superconductivity, thin-fil
m substrates and laser parts, but it is difficult to grind such crysta
ls because of their brittleness and crack generation. Therefore, a sup
er-abrasive diamond wheel is required for the mirror-like grinding of
these materials. An optimum in-process electrolytic dressing system wa
s constructed and the characteristics of the mirror-like grinding of M
gO single crystals were studied with various metal-bonded super-abrasi
ve diamond wheels. It is found that a finer super-abrasive wheel is pr
efable in obtaining the mirror-like grinding and surface grinding with
out cracks, with MgO single crystals. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
