Abstract
We demonstrate the unusual applications of the recently developed mira ge-Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy for nondestructive c haracterization of polymer coatings, especially on absorbing substrate s or very thin coatings, where conventional FTIR techniques tend to fa il. The mirage-FTIR has been briefly described. A few specific example s have been given to demonstrate the potential of this technique as a tool for surface characterization.
