Abstract
A novel synthesis of strongly fluorescent phenanthridine and phenanthr ene analogues as a possible new class of laser dyes utilizing the reac tions of tetralin-1-ylidenecyanothioacetamide or tetralin-1-ylidenemal ononitrile with beta-(2-furyl)- and beta-(2-thienyl)-acrylonitriles is reported.
