Abstract
Salmon calcitonin (5 mu g/kg body wt) was administered in an elasmobra nch, Dasyatis akajei, to investigate the effects upon plasma calcium a nd inorganic phosphate. The hormone produced hypocalcemia and hyperpho sphatemia in the stingray. It is concluded that calcitonin may have a role in calcium homeostasis by a mechanism different from that on bone s.
