The electrochemical corrosion of zinc in a zinc/ iron-pair leads in a
barium containing solution of hydroxozincate at room temperature to co
lourless platelets of BaZn(OH)(4) . H2O. The X-ray structure determina
tion on these crystals was successful. Hydrogen positions could not be
determined. Pna2(1), Z = 12, a = 11.786(1)Angstrom, b = 17.972(2)Angs
trom, c = 7.9336(6)Angstrom, N(F-0(2) greater than or equal to 2 sigma
F-0(2)) = 1692, N(Var.) = 71, R-1/wR(2) = 0.055/0.099. In BaZn(OH)(4)
. H2O the coordination polyhedra of 8 O around Ba build face-sharing
chains. Three of these chains are connected via edges. Isolated tetrah
edra of O around Zn bridge these chains three-dimensionally.
