Starting out with the mesoscopic balance equation of the orientation d
istribution function (ODF) of an orientable Cosserat continuum we elim
inate the orientation change velocity by the mesoscopic spin balance.
We obtain balance equations of the second moment of the ODF - the alig
nment tensor of second order - and an expression for the orientation c
hange velocity. The remaining balance equation of the orientation dist
ribution is of Fokker-Planck type.
