Abstract
Five new pre-naphthoquinone dehydro dimers (3)-(7) belonging to the un ique cardinalin class of pyranonaphthoquinonoid natural products have been isolated and characterized from the ethanolic extracts of the fru it bodies of the New Zealand toadstool Dermocybe cardinalis. Four othe r cardinalin derivatives (8) and (10)-(12) are believed to be artefact s of the purification procedure. The structures and relative stereoche mistry of these new cardinalins are deduced from spectroscopic data.
