Abstract
Interphase boundaries between hexagonal boron nitride and beta-Si3N4 i n hot isostatically pressed Si3N4-SiC particulate composites, in which boron nitride appears as a trace contaminant, have been examined usin g high resolution transmission electron microscopy. A number of charac teristic orientation relationships were observed between these two pha ses. Significantly, high resolution transmission electron microscopy s howed that the interphase boundaries tended not to contain any intergr anular films. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
