Abstract
In recent years, research has been devoted to improvement of the perfo rmance of ammonia-water absorption refrigeration systems. In this stud y, thermodynamic analyses for ammonia-water, ammonia-lithium nitrate a nd ammonia-sodium thiocyanate cycles are performed. Detailed thermodyn amic properties of these binary fluids are expressed in polynomial equ ations. The performances of these three cycles are compared. It is fou nd that ammonia-lithium nitrate and ammonia-sodium thiocyanate cycles are suitable alternatives to ammonia-water absorption systems. The per formance of the ammonia-sodium thiocyanate cycle is slightly better th an that of the ammonia-lithium nitrate cycle. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scienc e Ltd.
