Alkylations in dry media of the ambident 2-naphthoxide anion were perf
ormed with microwave activation in a focused (monomode) reactor. Where
as yields were identical with those obtained after conventional heatin
g in the case of benzylation, they were significantly enhanced with mi
crowave activation for the more difficult n-octylation, No change in r
egioselectivity was observed, indicating the lack of influence of the
ionic polarization during the microwave procedure.
