Abstract
The rotational viscosity, gamma(1), in the nematic phase of a 49.13/50 .87 wt.% CsPFO\H2O-system was investigated by the rotational magnetic- field method. This sample showed Newtonian behavior for the selected a ngular speeds. The pretransitional effect on gamma(1) near the disk-li ke nematic N-L to lamellar phase transition was better understood with the mean-field model of McMillan, which predicted a critical exponent nu = 0.5 for the divergence of gamma(1), than with de Gennes' model.
