It is observed experimentally for the first time that light-induced ba
rodiffusion is an important mechanism for local phase separation in a
liquid stratifying mixture in the field of short laser pulses. This ef
fect is applied for determination of the binodal location of the mixtu
re, whereas inducing the laser cavitation in the mixture can be used t
