The synthesis of the oxycarbonate Tl0.85Sr4Cu1.85Fe0.30(CO3)O-7 shows
for the first time the possibility to stabilize the ''1201''-Sr2Cu(CO3
)O-2 intergrowth by trivalent iron substitution. This compound crystal
lizes in the space group P 4/mmm with a = 3.8246(1)Angstrom and c = 16
.5069(4)Angstrom. The combination of the XRD, HREM and Mossbauer techn
iques allows the distribution of iron to be determined. The latter sit
s on two kinds of sites, copper and thallium. As a consequence, this c
opper oxycarbonate, contrary to all other copper oxycarbonates contain
ing thallium, does not superconduct.
