Abstract
Condensation of propionic (or acetic) aldehyde, cyanothioacetamide, Me ldrum's acid, and N-methylmorpholine occurs via the intermediate forma tion of the corresponding Michael adducts and yields 5-cyano-6-mercapt o-3,4-dihydropyridin-2-(1H)-ones. The oxidation of the reaction produc ts with DMSO and their alkylation were studied.
