Hyperglycemia is one of the most prominent factors associated with dia betic vascular disease, the development of which is initated by functi onal and morphological alterations of the endothelium. The review summ arizes several issues of glycemia and advanced glycation end products induced changes concerning soluble as well as cell bound endothelial a dhesion molecules, and further addresses the aspect of apoptosis in th e light of dia betic vascular complications.
