The current research uses a computer-based approach to automatically d
etermine the set of possible die-open directions for a given part. We
have ascertained that certain features on a part, called concavity fea
tures, restrict the directions in which a die may be opened. Therefore
, the current research uses concavity features to determine the set of
all possible die-open directions for a given part.
