We combine the Mk-II Function Points method for software estimation wi
th the ADISSA (architectural design of information systems based on st
ructural analysis) methodology for systems analysis and design. The co
mbined method, which is supported by a software tool, the ADISSA Estim
ator, permits us to estimate software metrics such as size, effort (ma
n-months) and duration (elapsed time) at the early stages of systems d
evelopment: This is accomplished by basing the estimations on the prod
ucts of a thorough system analysis and design process. (C) 1997 Elsevi
