In the last few years, developments in microprocessor power has enable
d more intelligence to be incorporated into NDT instruments, allowing
access to many more features and more information for the operator. Un
fortunately, this has frequently been paired with increasing complexit
y and more difficult operating procedures to take advantage of these f
eatures([1]). A recent European development has, however, managed to c
ombine the advantages of the additional processor power with user-frie
ndliness, giving us PMFT or 'Preventive Multi-Frequency Testing'. PMFT
offers component manufacturers an eight-frequency high-speed eddy cur
rent test that is both fast and very simple to operate and calibrate.
