A recently proposed equation-of-state is examined further for compatib
ility with prior theory. It is found, by adopting a more realistic fun
ctional relationship for one of the thermodynamic state variables and
eliminating higher-order terms from the model, that three historical t
heories for determination of the Gruneisen function fall directly out
of the recently proposed model. One is led to conclude that the newer
model captures the essence of all of the older theories, each of which
is applicable under an appropriate circumstance.
