Abstract
An approximate non-local independent fermion kinetic-energy density fu nctional is constructed from a model for the density functional exchan ge hole. The functional is exact for one-and two-electron systems and gives a good approximation for a homogeneous electron gas. Reasonable results are also obtained fur model systems.
