THE MALE NUPTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ARTHROLEPTIDES-MARTIENSSENI NEIDEN, AN ENDEMIC TORRENT FROG FROM TANZANIA EASTERN ARC MOUNTAINS

Recent field work in the Udzungwa Mountains of Tanzania has resulted i n the discovery of the hitherto unreported nuptial characters of male Arthroleptides martiensseni which are described and illustrated in thi s contribution. These newly described characters are compared with the nuptial characters of male Arthroleptides dutoiti, a supposedly extin ct species from Mount Elgon (Kenya) as well as with members of the Wes t African genus Petropedetes, which exhibit some remarkable morphologi cal and ecological similarities with Arthroleptides martiensseni.
