J. Kaloustian et al., COMPARATIVE-ANALYSIS OF SOME MEDITERRANEA N PLANTS BY THERMAL AND CHEMICAL-ANALYSIS, Journal of thermal analysis, 50(5-6), 1997, pp. 795-805
Thermal analysis can be used for the behaviour of plants during heatin
g and most particularly in the risk prevention of forest fire. Cellulo
se, holocellulose and lignin are the most important compounds determin
ated by analytical procedures in six mediterranean vegetals: Acacia de
albata, Pinus halepinsis, Quercus coccifera, Rosmarinus officinalis, T
hymus vulgaris, Ulex parviflorus. TG-DTA is applied to the powders obt
ained after drying (110 degrees C), pounding and sifting. The rate of
pyrolysis about 300 degrees C allows a semi-quantitative estimate of t
he cellulose present in the vegetal and its flammability.
