L. Lovas, INFLUENCE OF AGGRESSION ON THE PERCEPTION OF BEHAVIOR OF THE INCIDENTPARTICIPANTS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE VICTIM, Ceskoslovenska psychologie, 41(5), 1997, pp. 399-409
In order to verify the influence of aggression, intentionality of the
incident, and gravity of its consequences on the perception of behavio
ur of the incident participants from the perspective of the victim, th
e rating of the victimizer's and victim's behaviour was analysed on th
e scales of friendliness vs. hostility and dominance vs. submissivenes
s. The experimental project 2 x 2 x 2 included one intersubject factor
(aggression - high, low), and two introsubject factors (intentionalit
y of the incident - accidental, intentional, and gravity of the conseq
uences - serious, negligible). 192 participants rated the victimizer's
behaviour and their own reaction in four types of hypothetic situatio
ns. The participants were chosen according to the results of the Slova
k version of the Aggression Ques-tionnaire (Buss, Perry, 1992). influe
nced only by the intentionality of the incident. The assumed response
of the victim was affected by all the factors. Tile results were analy
sed from the aspect of the differences between the rating of the victi
mizer and that of the victim, from the aspect of the influence of the
factors studied, and from the aspect of complementarity in the context
of mutual dependence in the sphere of social behaviour (in case of in
tentional incidents, the victimizer's behaviour was perceived as hosti
le and dominant; the assumed reaction should aso be the hostile domina
nt behaviour).
