Abstract
Methods of thermogravimetry, chromatography and viscometry have been u sed to investigate the oxidation products of pentaerythritol esters. I t has been found that, during the oxidation of pentaerythritol tetraes ters, an appreciable amount of triester is formed through the oxidativ e detachment of the acyloxy group. In a study of the viscosity propert ies of mixtures of pentaerythrate tetra and triesters with a different ratio of components, it has been established that the formation of hy droxyl-containing products makes a considerable contribution to the me chanism of increase in the viscosity of pentaerythritol esters under o xidation conditions.
