Poly(methyl methacrylate) supported isoxazolinium chromate and chloroc
hromate have been developed as a new class of regenerable solid phase
reagents for oxidation of alcohols. The reagents are prepared by a ser
ies of polymer analogous reactions starting from 2% divinylbenzene (DV
B), ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and NN'-methylene-bis-acryla
mide (NN'MBA) crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate) resins. NN'MBA cro
sslinked resin is found to possess higher functional group capacity, a
nd reactivity in terms of reaction period and product yield. These rea
gents are found to oxidise primary and secondary alcohols to the corre
sponding carbonyl compounds in high yields.
